GAME DAY 5: at Charlottetown

A preview of tonight’s game between the Saint John Sea Dogs and Charlottetown Islanders…

When and where: Tonight at 7 p.m., Eastlink Centre

TV/Radio/Webcast: None/96.1 NewSong FM/QMJHL Live

Records: The Sea Dogs are third in the Maritimes Division and 11th overall in the QMJHL with a 2-2-0-0 record for four points. The Islanders are first in the Maritimes and third overall with a 4-0-0-0 record for eight points.

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Mooseheads in Halifax last Saturday. Ryan Chiasson scored Saint John’s only goal. Alex Bishop was pulled after allowing three goals on seven shots and was replaced by Marc-Antoine Turcotte who made 22 saves in relief. The Islanders are coming off a 4-3 overtime win over the Screaming Eagles in Cape Breton on Sunday. Quinn O’Brien, Filip Rydstrom, Mitchell Balmas and Oliver Cooper all scored for Charlottetown. Matthew Weslsh made 33 saves in the victory.

2014-15 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs were 3-3-2-1 against the Islanders last season while Charlottetown went 6-2-0-1 against Saint John.

Last meeting: August 15 in Pownal where the Islanders defeated the Sea Dogs 7-1 in pre-season play. Keith Getson had a hat trick for Charlottetown, Mitchell Balmas had two goals and singles came from Josh Shatford and Shawn Boudrias. Matt Green scored the only goal for the Sea Dogs. Alex Bishop allowed four goals on 24 shots in the game.

Ex-Sea Dogs on the Islanders: Oliver Cooper, Will Thompson and Alex McQuaid

Random stat/fact: The Islanders, Gatineau Olympiques and Shawinigan Cataractes are the only undefeated teams remaining in the QMJHL. They are all 4-0-0-0.

SJ notes: The Sea Dogs are still without defensemen Thomas Chabot (Ottawa) and Jakub Zboril (Boston) due to NHL camps… according to the Telegraph-Journal, d-man Adam Bateman will not play due to a lower body injury… Jason Bell is suspended for tonight’s game… forwards Spencer Smallman (Carolina), Adam Marsh (Detroit), Samuel Dove-McFalls (Philadelphia), Mathieu Joseph (Tamp Bay), Bokondji Imama (Tampa Bay) and Nathan Noel (Anaheim) all returned from NHL camps this week… this is the third straight road game for Saint John… Sam Povorozniouk leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for five points… Daniel Del Paggio also has five points (two goals and three assists)… Matthew Highmore is fifth in the league in shots with 19… Marc-Antoine Turcotte’s 2.20 GAA is fourth best in the league… Saint John has the second best penalty kill in the league with a rating of 94.4%.

CHA notes: The Islanders are still without forward Daniel Sprong (Pittsburgh) and goaltender Mason McDonald (Calgary) due to NHL camps… Alexandre Goulet (New Jersey) and Filip Chlapik (Ottawa) returned to Charlottetown this week… Bradley Kennedy leads the Isles in scoring with three goals and three assists… defenseman Luc Deschenes is off to a good start with six assists in four games. He is third in defensemen scoring… Charlottetown’s 17 goals scored is the most in the Maritimes Division… Alexandre Goulet had six goals and seven assists in in eight games against Saint John last year.
