TVA Sports is reporting that the Sea
Dogs have made a significant trade.
The Sea Dogs have reportedly acquired
20-year-old defenseman Matt Murphy from the Quebec Remparts in exchange for
20-year-old d-man Adam Bateman, prospect Pierre-Luc Lurette, a 2016
second-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick.
Murphy, a Fredericton native, will add a
lot of experience to Saint John’s backend. Now in his fifth QMJHL season, Murphy
has played in 283 regular season games with Val-d’Or, Halifax and Quebec where
he has recorded 26 goals and 111 assists. He’s added nine goals and 15 assists
in 58 playoff games.
The 6’2”, 196 lbs d-man has also played in
two Memorial Cups – in 2013 with the Mooseheads and last year with the Remparts.
Going the other way is Bateman, who joined the Sea Dogs last season
after three years in the OHL with the Windsor Spitfires. In 29 games this year
the Caledon, ON native has two goals and three assists.
Lurette, a sixth-round pick in 2015 by
the Sea Dogs, has two goals and six assists in 20 MHL games with the
Campbellton Tigers this season. The 17-year-old defenseman has appeared in one game
with Saint John this year and was held pointless.
