Devils Deal Gelinas To Avalanche

A former Sea Dog was involved in a deal prior to today’s NHL trade deadline.

The New Jersey Devils sent former Dogs defenseman Eric Gelinas to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 2017 third-round pick this afternoon.

Gelinas has been in the Devils doghouse, for whatever reasons, over the past few seasons. He has appeared in just 34 games this year, recording one goal and five assists.

The 24-year-old had his best NHL season in 2013-14 where he scored seven goals and 22 assists in 60 games. In 156 career contests, Gelinas has 14 goals and 40 assists. Like in junior, he is still well known for his booming slap shot.

Gelinas heads to a Colorado team that currently holds the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. He’ll be coached by Patrick Roy - who is certainly familiar with what Gelinas is capable of.

Gelinas played with Lewiston, Chicoutimi and Saint John during his QMJHL career. He helped the Sea Dogs win the Memorial Cup in 2011 following a midseason trade.
