Game Day 21: vs Phoenix

The Saint John Sea Dogs (12-6-2-0, 1st Maritimes, 3rd QMJHL) are back home tonight to take on the Sherbrooke Phoenix (8-8-1-2, 4th West, 14th QMJHL). Puck drop is at 7 p.m.

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a big 7-3 road win in Charlottetown last night. Jakub Zboril scored twice while singles came from Mathieu Joseph, Nathan Noel, Bokondji Imama, Matthew Highmore and Spencer Smallman. Alex Bishop made eight saves through 40 minutes of play while Alex D'Orio made six in the third period. The Phoenix are coming off a 9-5 loss in Halifax last night. Marek Zachar had a pair of goals while singles came from Anderson MacDonald, Julien Pelletier and Jason Imbeault. Evan Fitzpatrick allowed eight goals on 31 shots while Justin Blanchette made four saves.

2016-17 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs are 1-0-0-0 against the Phoenix this season while Sherbrooke is 0-1-0-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Oct. 9 in Sherbrooke where the Sea Dogs edged the Phoenix 5-3. Matthew Highmore had two goals for Saint John while Mathieu Joseph, Alexandre Bernier and Joe Veleno also scored. Benjamin Tardif, Kevin Gilbert and Anderson MacDonald had Phoenix goals. Alex D'Orio made 21 saves in the win. Evan Fitzpatrick made 32 stops in the loss.

Random stat: Quispamsis native and former Saint John Vito's star Anderson MacDonald has cooled off a bit since his hot start. MacDonald currently sits 14th in QMJHL rookie scoring with 10 goals and three assists. His 10 goals place him in a tie for second amongst rookies.

Three Things to Know
1. There will no doubt be a lot of eyes on Anderson MacDonald tonight. The Phoenix selected the New Brunswicker 10th overall in this year's QMJHL Draft - one spot ahead of the Sea Dogs selecting Olivier Mathieu.

2. This is the second game of a three-in-three through the Maritimes for the Phoenix. They lost 5-3 in Charlottetown on Thursday, 9-5 in Halifax last night and will play in Saint John tonight.

3. Saint John's power play had quite a night last night, scoring five times. They now own the best power play rating in the league at 32.6%.

Notes: Mathieu Joseph and Matthew Highmore are now in a tie for the Sea Dogs team scoring lead with 28 each... Joseph leads the team in goals with 16... Highmore has a team high 19 assists... the Phoenix are led by Hugo Roy who has 24 points... Julien Pelletier leads the team in goals with 12... Thomas Gregoire has a team high 20 assists... Saint John is 6-2-1-0 at home this season... Sherbrooke is 2-5-1-0 on the road... Sherbooke's Olivier Schingh-Gomez leads the QMJHL in penalty minutes... Gregoire is third in defencemen scoring with three goals and 23 points in 19 games... Sherbooke has the third best power play in the league with a rating of 30.8%... the Sea Dogs have the fifth best penalty kill with a rating of 82%... Joseph and Bokondji Imama each have four-game goal scoring streaks... Spencer Smallman has assists in five straight games... the Phoenix have lost three straight road games.
