Another big day for Sea Dogs at WJC

Thomas Chabot had an impressive opening game at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship on Monday. He topped that performance on Tuesday.

Chabot was named Canada's Player of the Game in the team's 5-0 win over Slovakia at Air Canada Centre. The Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman recorded one goal, one assist and three shots in 18:26 of ice time (which once again led all Canadian skaters).

The goal was the first of Chabot's world junior career. Tonight was his seventh career game.

Chabot also became the first Sea Dog to score for Canada at the world juniors since Jonathan Huberdeau in 2013.

Mathieu Joseph, although held off the scoresheet for a second straight night, had a terrific game. He was good on the penalty kill, created a few quality scoring chances and drew at least three penalties. It was a trademark Mathieu Joseph performance. The Sea Dogs forward finished the night with two shots in 13:12 of ice time.

Canada has tomorrow to prepare for Thursday's contest against Latvia.

Earlier in the day, Jakub Zboril and the Czech Republic came back from a 2-0 third period deficit but still fell 4-3 in overtime to Switzerland.

It was an up-and-down game for Zboril. He helped setup two Czech Republic goals - including the game-tying marker in the final minute - but also took an undisciplined cross checking penalty that allowed the Swiss to score their third goal.

Zboril was also beat by the highly skilled Nico Hischier of the Halifax Mooseheads on the overtime winner.

Zboril finished the game with two assists and three shots in 22:32 of ice time (which led all Czech skaters).

The Czech Republic takes on Denmark on Thursday in Montreal.

At the Spengler Cup, Chris DiDomenico and Team Canada got back on the winning track with a 4-3 win over HC Davos.
