Notebook: Mann-Dixon traded to Halifax

Former Sea Dogs goaltender Blade Mann-Dixon has been traded to the Halifax Mooseheads.

The Charlottetown Islanders, who acquired goaltender Mark Grametbauer from the Gatineau Olympiques Wednesday, traded Mann-Dixon to the Mooseheads in exchange for an eighth-round draft pick in the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft.

Mann-Dixon is 9-4 this season with a 3.16 goals against average and .896 save percentage.

The 19-year-old was an 11th-round pick of the Sea Dogs in the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft. A star netminder in the MHL, Mann-Dixon played in three games with Saint John in 2014-15, going 2-1 with a 3.82 GAA and .878 SV%.

This will be Mann-Dixon's fourth QMJHL team, having played with Saint John, Moncton and Charlottetown already.

Canada wins again
Thomas Chabot and Mathieu Joseph were both held pointless in Team Canada's 5-0 pre-tournament victory over Jakub Zboril and the Czech Republic on Wednesday in Ottawa.

Chabot and Joseph each recorded an assist in Canada's first pre-tournament game on Monday, a 5-0 win over Finland in Montreal.

Here's a Hockey Canada feature on Joseph:
Canada plays its final exhibition game on Friday against Switzerland in Toronto while Zboril and the Czech Republic play the United States in Kingston.

Speaking of Chabot, there are quite a few Ottawa Senators prospects playing in this year's World Junior Hockey Championship.

Green rumours still floating around
The Luke Green rumours still won't go away. Here's the latest from Eastlink TV's Kris Abbott:
Le Droit reported a few weeks ago that Green had requested a trade, but that report was shot down by his agent, Allan Walsh.

If the rumours are true, the return for Green should be quite good given his talent and the fact that he should be in the league for at least one more full season.

The QMJHL trading period ends on Jan. 6.

Top prospects
HockeyProspect.com recently released its top 50 rankings for the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft. The top 10 rankings can be seen for free.

Two forwards from Quebec sit at the top of the list. Alexis Lafreniere, who has an impressive 24 goals and 33 assists in just 24 games with the midget AAA Saint-Eustache Vikings this season, is ranked first. Samuel Poulin of the Collège Esther-Blondin Phénix is ranked second.

The top ranked Maritime player is defenceman Jaxon Bellamy of the Saint John Vito's, who is listed at No. 3.

The 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft will be held on Saturday, June 3 at Harbour Station.

Up top
The Sea Dogs enter the Christmas break first overall in the QMJHL and are fifth in the latest CHL Top 10 Rankings.
Meanwhile, the team also topped Stephane Leroux's latest power rankings at RDS. Shawinigan was ranked second.

Nice things about Highmore
The Hockey Writers say current Sea Dogs forward Matthew Highmore and former Dogs defenceman Olivier Leblanc deserve pro deals for the 2017-18 season.

Sea Dogs are good
The Sea Dogs are a contender for the league championship, says some guy.
