Who will the Sea Dogs face next?

Who will the Saint John Sea Dogs play in the second round of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoffs? There are a few possibilities.

Saint John's next playoff opponent is relatively simple to determine - with the Sea Dogs finishing first overall in the regular season standings, they will always play the lowest remaining seed. That means the Sea Dogs could face any team seeded eighth or lower in this round.

Here is who the Dogs could face:

Chicoutimi (8) - swept the Victoriaville Tigres in the first round.

Gatineau (10) - avoided elimination with a win on Wednesday at home. They trail the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 3-1 heading into Friday night's Game 5 at the Guertin.

Val-d'Or (14) - it seems like the Shawinigan Cataractes struggle in the first round every year, and this season is no different. The Val-d'Or Foreurs evened up the series at 2-2 with a Wednesday win. Game 5 is Friday night in Shawinigan.

Halifax (15) - the surprising Mooseheads have given the second seeded Rouyn-Noranda Huskies fits this round. The series is even at 2-2 with a huge Game 5 - the last Halifax home game of the series - to be played on Friday.
Long story short - the Sea Dogs will not know who their second round opponent is until Monday night at the earliest. If a series goes seven games, those matches would be played Tuesday.

The Sea Dogs announced Wednesday night that Game 1 of their second round series would be played next Friday, April 7 at Harbour Station. Game 2 is expected to be played the following day.
