Safin completes Four Nations Tournament

Ostap Safin finished the Four Nations Tournament with four points in three games.

The Czech Republic forward recorded two assists in the team's 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday, an assist in a 4-2 win over Sweden on Saturday and another assist in Sunday's 6-5 overtime loss to Russia.

The Czech loss on Sunday makes Russia this year's tournament champions.

Safin, selected 53rd overall by Saint John in this year's CHL Import Draft, is expected to join the Sea Dogs in September. He was selected in the fourth-round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Edmonton Oilers.

Of note, Filip Zadina, the Halifax Mooseheads' top import pick and a top prospect for the 2018 NHL Draft, had a goal and two assists for the Czechs on Sunday.

The Four Nations Tournament featured under-20 national teams from the Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden and Finland. The event took place in Finland.

Safin will presumably have a good chance of representing the Czechs again this winter, this time at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
