RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 7-2

FINAL: Saint John 2, Blainville-Boisbriand 7

SAINT JOHN - Second periods have been kind to the Saint John Sea Dogs this season - but that changed on Sunday afternoon at Harbour Station.

The Sea Dogs allowed three second period goals and were outshot 13-6 en route to a 7-2 home loss to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Saint John looked good at times - especially early in the first - but, like Friday in Bathurst, couldn't recover once things started to slip away.

Sea Dogs backup goaltender Tommy DaSilva continues to struggle, allowing seven goals on 43 shots in the loss. He has allowed six goals in both of his starts this season. Saint John goals came from Yohan Plamondon and Jeremy Poirier. The team once again failed to score on a power play (eight chances) and is now 0/30 on the season.

The Armada - playing their third road game in four days - had a pair of goals from Thomas Ethier and solo markers from Remy Anglehart, Luke Henman, Jasper Rannisto, Charles-Antoine Giguere and Peyton Hoyt. Mikhail Denisov made 27 saves in the win.

The loss was Saint John's sixth straight. They have not won since Sept. 23.

The Sea Dogs created some excellent chances early on. During a 50-second five-on-three power play, the Sea Dogs generated a few quality scoring chances but were unable to connect. Shots were 8-0 in favour of Saint John four minutes into the game.

Back at even strength, the Armada quickly started to press, nearly scoring on their first shot on net five minutes into the game.

The Armada opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 12:35. After DaSilva made a nice save off an Anthony Poulin one time shot, Anglehart put the rebound over the pad of the Saint John goaltender to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Plamondon tied the game at 16:21. Brendan Sibley had the puck at the line and fired a pass down low to Plamondon who waited before firing a low wrist shot through the five-hole of Denisov.

Near the final minute of the first, the Armada were caught with too many men. On the same break, the officials reviewed an Armada scoring chance that happened a few minutes earlier and ruled Ethier had in fact jammed the puck past DaSilva's leg, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead. 3:17 was put back on the time clock.

Saint John was awarded a five-minute power play 36 seconds into the middle frame when Aleksi Anttalainen was given a major and game misconduct for a check to the head on Sibley. William Villeneuve was called for a slash at 4:27, which ended the power play. During the four-on-four play at 5:25, the Dogs entered the zone on an odd man rush which saw Luke Wilson feed Poirier. The rookie d-man then cut in front and roofed the puck over Denisov to tie the game at 2-2.

The Armada jumped back in front at 8:28. A long shot was stopped in front and loose in some traffic. Ethier grabbed it and slid the puck past DaSilva's leg and in to make it a 3-2 game.

Henman scored at 8:28 of the second. The puck was behind the net and came out in front where the Armada forward quickly one-timed a shot past DaSilva, making it 4-2 Armada.

Blainville-Boisbriand kept the pressure coming late in the second. A point shot was blasted from the line and redirected in front and past DaSilva, making it 5-2. Credit was given to Rannisto.

The Armada made it a 6-2 game at 11:01 of the third period when Giguere scored. Then with 2:15 remaining, the puck rolled over the pad of DaSilva with credit for the goal going to Hoyt, which made it a 7-2 final.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Brady Burns, Nicholas Deakin-Poot, Christian Clark and Anthony Boucher; along with defensemen Tyler Higgins and Nathan Larose.

NOTES: Saint John Vito's forward Connor Richard made his QMJHL debut with the Sea Dogs. He played on the fourth line with Jeremie Jacob and Kevin Mason. To start warm up, Richard skated around the ice solo... goaltender Tommy DaSilva made his second start of the season. He has allowed six or more goals in five of his seven career appearances... Sea Dogs captain Anthony Boucher served the second and final game of his two-game suspension... the Armada's first goal was the first shorthanded goal the the Sea Dogs have allowed this season. The Armada now have an impressive four shorties early on this year... Yohan Plamondon has goals in back-to-back games and points in three straight... Michael Campoli was bleeding quite badly from the nose area late in the first. He did not return... Jeremy Poirier's goal was also his first QMJHL point... Jasper Rannisto, the Armada's first round pick in this year's CHL Import Draft, scored his first QMJHL goal.
