RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 4-3 (SO)

FINAL: Saint John 3, Charlottetown 4 (SO)
CHARLOTTETOWN - An impressive third period comeback got the Saint John Sea Dogs a point on Sunday afternoon.

The Sea Dogs scored two goals in the final five minutes of regulation time but ultimately fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Charlottetown Islanders at Eastlink Centre. It's not the first time this season that this happened - on Feb. 9 at Harbour Station, the Dogs scored twice in the final five minutes against the Isles to send the game to extra time, setting up Filip Prikryl's overtime goal.

Saint John was playing a man short on Sunday and were coming off an ugly 11-1 loss the night before. Despite allowing 56 shots, the Sea Dogs played a fairly good game, scoring more than a single goal in a match for the first time since Feb. 12.

Jordan Maher gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead in the first period and then Daniel Hardie scored to make it 2-0 early in the second. Less than a minute after Hardie's goal, William Poirier got Saint John on the board. But late in the second, Xavier Fortin scored to put the Isles up by two again.

Fast forward to 15:54 of the third, Prikryl was parked in front of the goal and redirected a Michael Campoli shot. 24 seconds later, Jeremie Jacob put a rebound past Islanders goaltender Matthew Welsh to tie the game.

After overtime solved nothing, the first three shooters for both squads scored to open the shootout. After Brady Burns was stopped in the sixth round, Sullivan Sparks deked out Zachary Bouthillier to give Charlottetown the win and extra point.

Welsh made 24 stops in the win and Bouthillier made 53 in the loss.

Saint John has now lost seven straight games overall and 10 straight on the road.
