Sea Dogs draft 12 players

QUEBEC CITY - Despite having the first overall selection, the 2019 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft will be remembered as a fairly quiet one for the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The Sea Dogs kept all 12 picks they entered the draft with and selected eight forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender. The team took some swings, drafting several players with NCAA intentions, and time will tell if they hit home runs or not.

Here's a closer look at Saint John's selections.

Round 1, Pick 1
Joshua Roy, forward, 5'11", 180 lbs
Full article here.

Round 2, Pick 21
Peter Reynolds, forward, 5,9", 160 lbs
The Sea Dogs rolled the dice early in the second round and took Fredericton native Peter Reynolds. The forward played at Shattuck St. Mary's the past few seasons and has already committed to Boston College for 2022. He is believed to be heading to the BCHL next season.

Reynolds recorded 27 goals and 44 assists in 51 games last season. He was ranked as the third best player available for this year's draft by every publication, but his NCAA commitment dropped him significantly on draft day.
It'll be interesting to see how this one plays out. Reynolds obviously fits into Saint John's core... but this a core that's getting crowded. This will be something to follow as the off-season move along.

Round 2, Pick 34
Charles Savoie, forward, 6'1", 161 lbs
Savoie had 19 goals and 18 assists in 41 games with the midget AAA Saint-Eustache Vikings last season.

Round 3, Pick 51
Cameron MacDonald, forward, 6'2", 180 lbs
A Hammonds Plains, NS native, MacDonald spent last season at the Connecticut based Selects Hockey Academy where he recorded a pretty okay 72 goals and 54 assists in 52 games. MacDonald has already signed a tender with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede for the 2019-20 season, so it's hard to say if we'll see him Saint John come training camp. He was projected to be a late second round pick by all publications.

Round 5, Pick 74
Robert Orr, forward, 5'10", 166 lbs
Orr spent last season with the Lac St-Louis Lions where he recorded 10 goals and 23 assists in 34 games. He was projected to be a late second round pick by all publications.

Round 7, Pick 110
Anthony Cliche, defenseman, 6'2", 193 lbs
Saint John waited until the seventh round to draft a defensman, taking Cliche from Bishop's College prep school in Sherbrooke. He was taken in ninth round of the USHL draft by the Sioux City Musketeers.

Round 10, Pick 164
Nick Roukounakis, forward, 6'0", 224 lbs
Along with being a large human being, Roukounakis put up decent numbers in the US prep school ranks last season, recording six goals and nine assists in 19 games with the Thayer Academy Tigers. He is a Massachusetts native who has committed to Boston University for 2022. He was a fourth round pick by the Dubuque Fighting Saints in this year's USHL draft.

Round 11, Pick 182
Justin Pace, goaltender, 5'11, 162 lbs
Pace was the first and only goaltender taken by the Sea Dogs on Saturday. A Quebec native, Pace spent last season with the Florida Jr. Blades program where he had a 2.75 GAA and .910 SV%.

Round 12, Pick 200
Cam Miranda, defenseman, 5'11", 145 lbs
A defenseman, Miranda registered five goals and 41 assists in 57 games with the Selects Hockey Academy last season. He was the second Massachusetts born player taken by the Dogs on the day.

Round 12, Pick 213
Jaiden Moriello, forward, 6'1, 170 lbs
Another Massachusetts native, Moriello recorded 18 goals and 19 assists in 32 games with the Boston Jr Bruins last season.

Round 13, Pick 218
William Elias, defenseman, 5'9", 155 lbs
Yet another Massachusetts native, Elias had two goals and 11 assists in 29 games with St. Sebastien's School in the US.

Round 14, Pick 236
Carter McCluskey, forward, 5'7, 140 lbs
A Grand Bay-Westfield native, McCluskey recorded 11 goals and 18 assists in 31 games with the Saint John Vito's last season. Elite Prospects lists him a bit bigger than the QMJHL site.
