Game Day 5: at Charlottetown

CHARLOTTETOWN - The Saint John Sea Dogs are back in action tonight, facing off against the Charlottetown Islanders for the first time this season.

After winning their first two games of the year, the Sea Dogs fell twice to the Cape Breton Eagles last weekend in Sydney. Defense has been a struggle with Saint John allowing over 40 shots a game.

Game time this evening is 7 p.m. at Eastlink Centre.

Records: The Sea Dogs are 2-2-0-0 for four points (fourth Maritimes, seventh Eastern, 11th league) while the Islanders are 3-0-1-0 for seven points (second Maritimes, third Eastern, fifth league).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off an 8-3 loss in Sydney on Sunday. Joshua Roy, Jeremie Poirier and Nicholas Guay all scored for the Sea Dogs. Noah Pateneaude made 37 stops in the loss. The Islanders are coming off a 5-3 win in Moncton on Sunday. Gaetan Jobin, Liam Peyton, Xavier Bernard, Nikita Alexandrov and William Trudeau all scored for Charlottetown. Jacob Goobie made 29 stops in the win.

2019-20 head-to-head: This is the first meeting of the season between the two.

2018-19 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs were 2-5-0-2 against the Islanders last season while Charlottetown went 7-1-1-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Sept. 13 in Charlottetown where the Sea Dogs hammered the Islanders 7-2 in pre-season action. Brady Burns and Ben Badalamenti both scored twice for Saint John while singles came from Alex Drover, Dawson Stairs and Jeremie Poirier. Patrick LeBlanc and Noah Laaouan scored for Charlottetown. Noah Patenaude made 31 saves in the win. Jacob Goobie made 31 stops in the loss.

Ex-Sea Dogs on the Islanders: Forward Kevin Gursoy.

Islander to watch: Kevin Gursoy had seven goals and nine assists in eight games against Saint John last season.

Random stat: Saint John is allowing a league high 44.25 shots against per game.

Notes: Dawson Stairs leads Saint John in goals with three and points with five... Brady Burns has a team high four assists... Thomas Casey leads the Islanders in goals with three and points with seven...  Casey and Cedric Desruisseaux are tied for the team lead in assists with four... the Sea Dogs are 0-2 on the road... the Islanders are 1-0-1 at home... the Islanders have the worst power play in the league with a rating of 7.7%.
