Recap: Sea Dogs lose 7-6 (OT)

FINAL: Saint John 6, Charlottetown 7 (OT)
CHARLOTTETOWN - An uncharacteristically strong third period got the Saint John Sea Dogs a point on Friday night at Eastlink Centre.

The Sea Dogs scored four goals in under five minutes in the third period to send the match to overtime where Brett Budgell scored 1:05 in to give the Charlottetown Islanders a 7-6 victory.

Saint John never led in this game and have to be happy with the road point. The team has struggled mightily in third periods this season, and to see them make this kind of comeback - especially on the road against one of the league's best defensive teams - is an encouraging sign.

The Sea Dogs continue to struggle defensively, allowing another seven goals on Friday. Rookie goaltender Noah Pateneaude also continues to struggle, allowing six or more goals in each of his four starts. He now has a goals against average of 6.69 (which isn't nice).

Former Sea Dog Kevin Gursoy predictably scored three goals and added three assists for Charlottetown. Brett Budgell had two goals while Nikita Alexandrov and Lukas Cormier had singles. Rookie Jacob Goobie allowed six goals on 31 shots.

Josh Lawrence and Jeremie Poirier each scored twice for Saint John while Nicholas Deakin-Poot and Joshua Roy also connected. Patenaude allowed seven goals on 32 shots.

The Sea Dogs website has a full game recap.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs host the Islanders tonight at 7 p.m.
