Recap: Sea Dogs win 3-1

FINAL: Moncton 1, Saint John 3
SAINT JOHN - Zachary Bouthillier is back - and he let everyone know it on Wednesday night.

After missing Saint John's three-game road trip last week with an injury, the Sea Dogs' goaltender made a triumph return to the lineup, leading his club to a 3-1 win over the Moncton Wildcats at TD Station.

Saint John scored on their first shot of the game but struggled to generate much of anything offensively for most of the night. With forwards Nicholas Deakin-Poot and Maxim Cajkovic both out with injuries, the team's adjusted lines just couldn't seem to click. The Sea Dogs relied on Bouthillier, who made 43 saves, once again to lead them to a win.

Alex Drover, Josh Lawrence and Jeremie Poirier scored for the Sea Dogs.

The Wildcats, despite missing several of their best players due to injuries and international play, controlled the play for much of the game but ran into a hot goaltender. The 'Cats have struggled of late and have now lost three straight games.

Jordan Spence scored Moncton's only goal. Charles-Antoine Lavallee made 24 saves in the loss.

The Sea Dogs website has a full game recap.

LINEUP
SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Maxim Cajkovic (injured), Nicholas Deakin-Poot (injured) and Julian Vander Voet (suspended); along with defenseman Olivier DesRoches (healthy).

MIA: The Wildcats were missing a number of key players for this game. Their scratches were: Sam Dow, Ozzie King, Zachary L'Heureux, Jakob Pelletier, Alexander Khovanov and Olivier Rodrigue. The team dressed a respectable top line of Mark Rumsey, Mika Cyr and Jeremy McKenna, but after that it was a little thin.
STILL GONE: The Wildcats played yet another game without their head coach on Wednesday with John Torchetti still away from the team due to "personal reasons." This was the fifth straight game Torchetti missed. The Wildcats have gone 1-4 during that stretch.

DEBUT: Riley Bezeau, who was recalled from the MHL's Campbellton Tigers this week, made his QMJHL debut. He made a solo lap around the ice before the rest of the team joined him for warmup. Playing on the fourth line with Alexis Belisle and Jeremie Jacob, Bezeau was held off the scoresheet.

ODD FIRST: After scoring on their first shot on goal at 2:41 of the first period, the Sea Dogs didn't record a shot again until Jeremie Poirier let one go from the slot at 13:34. Shots ended 11-7 in favour of the Wildcats thanks to a late period push by the Sea Dogs.

LAVALLEE: Wildcats backup Charles-Antoine Lavallee has started all three of his team's games against the Sea Dogs this season. He is now 1-2, allowing six goals on 72 shots.

LAST SO: The Sea Dogs were 1:30 away from their first shutout win since Dec. 30, 2018 when Mikhail Denisov made 34 saves in a 1-0 win against the Wildcats.

NOTES: Alexis Belisle played in his first game since Nov. 15... Joshua Roy now has a goal and four assists over his past four games... a possible Wildcats goal was reviewed early in the third but did not count... Brady Burns had a nine-game point streak come to an end... it was another lightly attended game at TD Station. Announced attendance was just 2,574.
