Recap: Sea Dogs win 5-4

FINAL: Cape Breton 4, Saint John 5
SAINT JOHN - For just the second time in seven tries this season, the Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Cape Breton Eagles.

The Sea Dogs never trailed in Saturday's contest at TD Station, going on to beat the Eagles 5-4. Both teams traded momentum several times with Saint John going up 2-0 - which was followed by the Eagles tying things at 2-2 and then Saint John scoring another two to go up 4-2.

Joona Lehmus and Ben Badalamenti were the offensive stories in this game for Saint John with both scoring once and adding two assists. Joshua Roy scored to extend his goal streak to six games. Anderson MacDonald and Jeffrey Durocher also scored. Zachary Bouthillier was excellent, making 51 saves in the win.

Shawn Boudrias scored twice for Cape Breton with Egor Sokolov and Mathias Laferriere also scoring. William Grimard made 33 stops in the loss.

Saint John has now won three straight games and pushed their record back over the .500 mark (30-29-1-0).

LINEUP

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forwards Maxim Cajkovic (injured), Alexandre O'Neill (healthy) and Alex Drover (healthy).

SWAP: With Maxim Cajkovic out with an injury, Ben Badalamenti took the winger spot on the line with Brady Burns and Joshua Roy. The line has been one of Saint John's best in recent games - but the swap didn't seem to change much with the line scoring the team's first three goals.

BEN AWHILE: Ben Badalamenti's second period goal was his first since Dec. 28. He missed most of January with an injury.

STREAKING: Joshua Roy scored for a sixth straight game, giving him an impressive 15 goals in his rookie season. Roy has scored eight of his 15 goals in the second half. Roy now holds the team record for most consecutive games with at least a goal by a rookie (he was previously tied with Ostap Safin). The team record is seven, which is owned by Ryan Tesink and Sam Povorozniouk.
LEAP YEAR: This was the first time the Sea Dogs had the played on Feb. 29 in team history. The Eagles are quite familiar with the rare date though, playing in three previous Feb. 29 contests (shoutout Pat McNeil).

NOTES: The Sea Dogs dressed seven defensemen with forward Alex Drover being the team's final scratch... this was Joona Lehmus's first multi-point game... the Eagles will play the Sea Dogs two more times this season. They travel to Saint John for back-to-back games to close out the regular season on March 20-21.
