Georgie talks trades, draft on FB Live

During a Tuesday night Facebook Live, Saint John Sea Dogs president and general manager Trevor Georgie confirmed three trades that the team will make official on Wednesday.

The Sea Dogs will be acquiring defenseman Christopher Inniss from the Rimouski Oceanic and forward Nicholas Girouard from the Drummondville Voltigeurs. Both are 19-year-olds and Georgie said he projects both to be overager players for the club's 2022 run.

The two were the mystery guests on the Facebook Live broadcast.

Georgie didn't get into too many details on the trades. It has been reported that the Sea Dogs are sending two 2021 second round picks to the Volts for Girouard.

Georgie also confirmed that the Sea Dogs will be trading prospect Robert Orr to the Halifax Mooseheads in exchange for a second (38th overall) and fourth round (59th) pick in this year's draft. Orr slipped to the fifth round of last year's draft where Saint John selected him.

A few other tidbits from the Live:
  • Compared to a few weeks ago, Georgie definitely didn't sound as confident that the Sea Dogs would be picking third overall. "All bets are off with what we do with that pick," Georgie said.
  • Georgie said he's sent an email to all of the league's general mangers, saying the Sea Dogs are exploring all options with all picks.
  • On the (never ending) Ostap Safin trade: if Halifax's first round pick in 2021 is in the top 10, Halifax gets to keep the pick and send Saint John its 2022 first round pick. If Halifax's first round pick in 2021 is 11th overall or lower, Saint John will receive that pick.
  • "I wouldn't rule it out," Georgie said when asked if the team had another Peter Reynolds type surprise coming in the future.
  • The team once again made no mention of its head coaching situation.
  • Assistant general manager and head scout Anthony Stella said the top three rounds of this year's QMJHL Entry Draft should be heavy on defensemen.
  • "We'll probably be hated on no matter what we do," Stella jokingly (but also correctly) added.
  • Current Sea Dogs Joshua Roy, William Villeneuve and Jeremie Poirier were also guests on the program.
The QMJHL trading period takes place Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Atlantic.
