Game Day 17: vs Sagueneens

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs and Chicoutimi Sagueneens meet for the first time this season tonight at TD Station.

The Sags are in the middle of a three-in-three Maritime road trip that saw them hang on for a 6-4 win in Moncton last night after leading 4-0 and 5-1. They close out their trip tomorrow afternoon in Bathurst.

The Sea Dogs, meanwhile, are seemingly starting to click after a rough start to the year. With last night's strong 6-3 win over the Shawinigan Cataractes, Saint John has now won four of their past five games.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.

Records: The Sea Dogs are 8-6-0-2 for 18 points (fourth Maritimes/sixth Eastern/10th QMJHL) while the Sagueneens are 6-7-0-3 for 15 points (third East/eighth Eastern/15th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 6-3 home win over the Shawinigan Cataractes last night. William Dufour scored twice while singles came from Brady Burns, Ryan Francis, Nathan Drapeau and Josh Lawrence. Jonathan Lemieux made 30 stops in the win. The Sagueneens are coming off a 6-4 win in Moncton last night. Felix Lafrance and Matej Kaslik each scored twice while solo markers came from Felix Bedard and Felix-Olivier Chouinard. Kevyn Brassard, in his season debut, made 27 saves in the win.

2021-22 head-to-head: This is the first meeting of the season between the Sea Dogs and Sagueneens.

2020-21 head-to-head: These two did not meet last season.

Last meeting: Jan. 31, 2020 in Chicoutimi where the Sea Dogs defeated the Sagueneens 5-4 in a shootout. Josh Lawrence, Charlie DesRoches, Jeremie Poirier and Brady Burns all scored for Saint John. Dawson Mercer, Justin Ducharme, Xavier Labrecque and Raphael Lavoie had Chicoutimi goals. Zachary Bouthillier made 45 saves in the win. Carmine-Anthony Pagliarulo allowed three goals 17 shots while Alexis Shank allowed a goal on three shots in the loss.

Sagueneens to watch: With two goals last night in Moncton, Felix Lafrance moved into a tie for second in QMJHL goal scoring with 12.

Random stat: With a goal and three assists last night, Josh Lawrence tied a career high for points in a single game and set a new career high for assists in a single game.

Notes: William Dufour leads Saint John in points with 26 and goals with 14... Josh Lawrence has a team high 15 assists... Felix Lafrance leads Chicoutimi in points (22), goals (12) and assists (10)... Saint John is 4-3-0-2 at home... Chicoutimi is 2-4-0-2 on the road... Dufour now leads the QMJHL in goals and sits second in points... the Sags are averaging 25.54 shots per game, the second fewest in the league... Lafrance has goals in four straight games...
