Report: Crickard joining Sea Dogs' staff

SAINT JOHN - It appears the Saint John Sea Dogs have made an addition to their coaching staff.

The Waterloo Wolves under-18 program tweeted Monday that the team's head coach, Travis Crickard, is leaving to join the Sea Dogs as an assistant coach.

Crickard was named head coach of the Wolves in July 2020. According to Elite Prospects, his previous CHL work includes stops with the Kelowna Rockets and Ottawa 67's as both an assistant coach and goaltending coach. He's also worked in New Zealand as general manager of the Botany Swarm.

Crickard was a member of the 2014-15 Rockets coaching staff that won a WHL championship and lost to the Oshawa Generals in the Memorial Cup final.

The 34-year-old has also worked as an assistant and video coach with Team Canada's under-17 and under-18 programs.

A St. John's native, Crickard is a retired goaltender, playing three seasons of junior A - including 20 games with the Woodstock Slammers (RIP) in 2006-07 - before suiting up at the NCAA DIII level with SUNY-Potsdam.

Stefan Legein has been the only assistant behind the bench with Gordie Dywer this season. Paul Boutilier, who the Sea Dogs hired as a defense consultant, spent a couple games behind the bench a few weeks ago.
