Olivier Nadeau scored the game-winner at 7:06 of the third, securing Shawinigan their second win of the tournament. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, are in a major hole now, falling to 0-2 heading into their final round-robin game on Friday against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
This could create the hockey oddity that if Hamilton and Edmonton are tied late in the third period, Bulldogs would have to consider pulling goalie to go for the win.

Shawinigan also had power play goals from two of their other big guns: Xavier Bourgault and Mavrik Bourque. Antoine Coulombe got the start as the Cataractes continued their goaltending rotation. He made 38 stops in the win.
Mason McTavish and Avery Hayes scored for Hamilton. Marco Costantini made 31 saves in the loss.
The first period saw the teams combine for three power play markers. During a five-on-three advantage at 5:08, McTavish ripped a shot top corner over Coulombe's glove to make it 1-0.
Shawinigan quickly tied the game with a power play goal of their own at 6:47 when Bourgault scored. Then at 11:42 on a five-on-three advantage, Bourque wired a shot over the blocker of Costantini to put the Cataractes in front 2-1.
Hayes tied the game at 17:28 of the middle frame, redirecting an Artem Grushnikov point shot past Coulombe.
Nadeau scored what proved to be the game-winner on a five-on-four advantage at 7:06 of the third, tapping the puck past Costantini.
Shawinigan finished the game 3/7 on the power play. Hamilton went 1/4.
A few other notes...
- Kyle Dubas and Jason Spezza of the Maple Leafs were in attendance.
- Former Sea Dogs forward Mathieu Joseph performed the ceremonial puck drop.
- Three of the four on-ice officials were from the QMJHL.
- The second part of Shawinigan's goal song was not played.
- Attendance was 4,650, the smallest crowd of the tournament so far.
- The 50/50 winner took home $12,320.
