Notebook: Theme nights announced

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
The Saint John Sea Dogs have announced a number of theme nights that will take place this season.

The Sea Dogs will hold their Memorial Cup banner raising ceremony on Oct. 1, the team's second home game of the year. There will be a "Lady Mo" themed game on Nov. 27.
Other theme nights will be announced later.

REAL GAMES = SOON
The regular season begins in one week for the Sea Dogs.

Saint John opens regular season play next Saturday at TD Station, hosting the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 7 p.m. Following that game, the Sea Dogs will travel to Bathurst to play in the Titan's home opener on Sunday afternoon.

The Sea Dogs and Titan have one pre-season game remaining. The two will faceoff in Lameque, NB this Sunday at 4 p.m. on the final day of exhibition play.

ADS ARE COMING
In news that was inevitable, it looks like advertising is coming soon to helmets and jerseys in the QMJHL.

Le Soleil has confirmed that QMJHL teams will be allowed to have ads placed on player helmets this season and jersey ads could come as soon as next season.

NHL clubs began placing small ads on helmets in recent years and will begin wearing jersey ads this season. It's a bit surprising it's taken junior leagues this long to allow ads given that AHL clubs have been doing it for some time.

DUFOUR SPEAKS
Memorial Cup and world junior champion William Dufour spoke to media following the first day of New York Islanders rookie camp.
DROVER IN THE W
Former Sea Dogs forward Alex Drover made his pre-season debut with the Western Hockey League's Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday, posting four shots, four penalty minutes and a +1 rating in a 6-3 win over the Swift Current Broncos.

The Tigers have one pre-season game remaining before beginning regular season action next Saturday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

As the Medicine Hat News points out, there are four overage players trying to make the Tigers. Drover was cut by the Rimouski Oceanic a few weeks ago.

“They watched a lot of video on me and they were happy with me. I’ve done a lot of research on the organization, it’s a winning franchise. It just felt right,” Drover, speaking about head coach Willie Desjardins and associate coach Joe Frazer, told the Medicine Hat News. “It felt like we’re going to have a great connection. The big thing is, I think I can help the team and I hope that coach Willie thinks so as well.”

NEW LOGO
In an unexpected announcement, the Halifax Mooseheads unveiled an updated logo on Saturday morning.
The Mooseheads had been using the same logo since they entered the league in 1994.
