Game Day 35: vs Drakkar

- The Baie-Comeau Drakkar make their first and only visit of the season to TD Station tonight.

The Drakkar begin a three-game Maritime road trip this evening that will also see stops in Charlottetown and Cape Breton. The team is just 3-10-3-1 on the road this season, which is one of the worst road records in the league.

The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Moncton Wildcats on New Year's Eve. Saint John will be without forward Connor Trenholm tonight after he was traded to the Wildcats yesterday.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.

2022-23 regular season records: The Sea Dogs are 12-20-1-1 for 26 points (sixth Maritimes/10th Eastern/18th QMJHL) while the Drakkar are 14-19-3-1 for 32 points (fourth East/seventh Eastern/14th QMJHL).

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-1 loss to the Moncton Wildcats on Saturday at TD Station. Nico Laforge scored Saint John's only goal. Olivier Brideau made 42 saves in the loss. The Drakkar are coming off a 6-5 overtime win in Chicoutimi on Saturday. Marshall Lessard scored a pair of goals for Baie-Comeau while singles came from Charlie Fink, Matthew MacDonald, Charles-Antoine Dumont and Justin Poirier. Olivier Ciarlo made 28 saves in the win. 

2022-23 head-to-head: This is the first meeting of the season between the Sea Dogs and Drakkar.

2021-22 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs went 2-0-0-0 against the Drakkar last season while Baie-Comeau was 0-1-1-0 against Saint John.

Last meeting: Feb. 8, 2022 in Baie-Comeau where the Sea Dogs edged the Drakkar 7-5. William Dufour scored a pair of goals for Saint John while singles came from Jeremie Poirier, Vincent Sevigny, Marshall Lessard, Brady Burns and Riley Bezeau. Baie-Comeau had goals from Benjamin Corbeil, Andrew Belchamber, Vincent Collard, Jacob Gaucher and Xavier Fortin. Nikolas Hurtubise made 26 saves in the win. Olivier Ciarlo and Olivier Adam took the loss in net.

Ex-Sea Dogs on the Drakkar: Forward Marshall Lessard.

Drakkar to watch: Rookie Justin Poirier, the fourth overall pick in the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft, is the brother of former Sea Dogs defenseman Jeremie Poirier.

Random stat: Justin Poirier is second in rookie goal scoring with 13 in 25 games.

 Brady Burns leads Saint John in points with 33 and goals with 19... Nate Tivey leads the club in assists with 16... the recently acquired Charles-Antoine Dumont and Matyas Melovsky lead the Drakkar in points with 26... Justin Poirier leads the club in goals with 13... Melovsky has a team high 21 assists... Melovsky is fourth in rookie scoring while Poirier is seventh... the Sea Dogs are 0-3-0-0 against East Division teams... the Drakkar are 3-3-1-0 against Maritimes Division clubs... the Drakkar are averaging the second fewest goals per game (2.79) and the second fewest shots per game (26.49).
