Recap: Sea Dogs lose 4-2

- A big middle frame pushed the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies to a victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs on Thursday at Glencore Arena.

The Huskies scored three times and outshot the Sea Dogs 25-11 in the second period en route to a 4-2 win, stopping Saint John's winning streak at three games.

Saint John had another strong road period in the first and led 2-1. But the Huskies turned it up a notch in the second, scoring three times in the first 9:17 to take a 4-2 advantage - which included a five-on-three power play goal.

Saint John had a couple power play chances in an uneventful third period but could not cut Rouyn-Noranda's lead.

Benjamin Brunelle, Leighton Carruthers, Tristan Allard and Louis-Philippe Fontaine had Rouyn-Noranda goals. Former Sea Dogs netminder Thomas Couture made 33 stops in the loss.

Pavel Simek and Cole Burbidge scored for Saint John. Olivier Brideau was busy in net, making 44 saves in the loss. The rookie netminder was named the game's first star.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without defenseman Jeremie Richard (healthy) and forwards Peter Reynolds (injury), Harrison Ballard (healthy), Luka Benoit (healthy) and Jacob Beaulieu (healthy).

STAYING HOT: Cole Burbidge extended his point streak to six games with a goal in the first period. He has seven goals and five assists during this stretch, pushing him into the top-three of QMJHL rookie scoring.
SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS: Rouyn-Noranda fired 25 shots on the Sea Dogs in the second period alone and finished the game with 48. The 25-shot frame was the most shots in a second period by any team in the QMJHL this season. The previous high was 24.

NOTES: Saint John went with 11 forwards and seven defensemen once again... the only change in Saint John's lineup was Nathan Casey swapping in for Jacob Beaulieu... Sea Dogs defenseman Jared Cosman, a former member of the Huskies, took part in the ceremonial faceoff before the game... the same officiating crew that worked Wednesday's Sea Dogs game in Val-d'Or worked this one... Olivier Brideau assisted on Pavel Simek's first period goal, which was his first QMJHL point... Simek has scored in three straight games... Simek scored Saint John's sixth shorthanded goal of the season... Noah Reinhart had seven shots... Saint John's road winning streak ends at four games... Saint John finishes the season 0-2-0-0 against Rouyn-Noranda... attendance was 1,425.
