Big Game 2s for Lawrence and Roy

HALIFAX - The Halifax Mooseheads looked much more like the Halifax Mooseheads on Saturday night at Scotiabank Centre.

Former Saint John Sea Dogs forward Josh Lawrence was named the game's first star with two goals and three assists, leading the Mooseheads to a dominant 7-1 win over the Moncton Wildcats. The victory evens the second round series up at 1-1 with Games 3 and 4 taking place in Moncton later this week.

Lawrence also had seven shots in the game. The overage forward now has five goals and 11 assists in just six playoff games, placing him third in league scoring.

It was a much better performance by the Mooseheads offense that struggled in Friday's 4-1 loss. Halifax outshot Moncton 29-10 in the first two periods and 37-14 overall.

Much of the talk after the game involved Zachary L'Heureux's huge open ice hit on Yoan Loshing in the third period. L'Heureux, who is no stranger to ejections or suspensions, was given a five-minute major and game misconduct for charging.
L'Heureux, who had a goal and an assist, was named the game's second star. The Mooseheads also went with a spicy photo choice for their game recap.
This series has been entertaining so far. Game 3 is Wednesday night at Avenir Centre.

In Sherbrooke, former Sea Dogs forward Joshua Roy had three goals and three assists to lead the Phoenix to an 8-1 win and a 2-0 series lead over the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Roy now has a league best 18 points (nine goals and nine assists) this post-season.

In Quebec City, Charles Savoie had an assist in the Quebec Remparts' 5-1 win over the Rimouski Oceanic to take a 2-0 series lead. The game was highlighted (or lowlighted?) by this old school mocking of the Oceanic's system.
In Gatineau, Cam MacDonald had an assist to help the Gatineau Olympiques defeat the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 5-0 and take a 2-0 series lead. Former Sea Dogs netminder Thomas Couture faced 59 shots - a new career high - in the loss.

Gatineau goaltender Francesco Lapenna faced just 12 shots in the win. Lapenna now has four shutouts this post-season.
All three Quebec-based series resume on Tuesday.
