HALIFAX - The Saint John Sea Dogs have been eliminated from the Gilles Courteau Trophy playoffs. But could a former Sea Dog win the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship this year?

There are quite a few ex-Dogs still alive in the playoffs, including four (Josh Lawrence, Cam MacDonald, Connor Trenholm and Thomas Couture) who helped Saint John win the Memorial Cup last year. Marshall Lessard was eliminated in the first round.

The league's top four regular season teams - the Quebec Remaprts (Charles Savoie), Halifax Mooseheads (Josh Lawrence), Sherbrooke Phoenix (Joshua Roy) and Gatineau Olympiques (Cam MacDonald) - all feature ex-Dogs. It's safe to say the odds of a former Sea Dog lifting the Gilles Courteau Trophy in May are quite good.

Before round two begins on Friday night, here's a look at how former Sea Dogs have performed in the playoffs so far.

Rouyn-Noranda goaltender Thomas Couture is 4-1 with a 2.74 goals against average and a .889 save percentage in five playoff games.

Nathan Drapeau and the Val-d'Or Foreurs joined the Acadie-Bathurst Titan as the two teams that did not qualify for this year's post-season.
