Joshua Roy is the latest former Saint John Sea Dog to make his NHL debut.
Roy is coming off a pair of impressive seasons with the Sherbrooke Phoenix, recording 119 points in 66 games in 2021-22 and 99 points in 55 games last season. He would have reached triple-digits last season if not for his participation in the World Junior Hockey Championship — where he'll be remembered for quite some time for setting up Dylan Guenther's overtime goal in the gold medal game.
Roy played 13:03 for the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday in their 2-1 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers at the Bell Centre. Roy finished the night with an even rating and no shots on goal.

The 20-year-old is in his first full season of pro hockey, recording 12 goals and 18 assists in 34 AHL games with the Laval Rocket. He was called up to the Habs on Friday night.

Roy was selected first overall by the Sea Dogs in the 2019 QMJHL Entry Draft but was traded to Sherbrooke during the 2020-21 season. Roy has publicly criticized the Sea Dogs in the Quebec media in the past and is not a celebrated alumnus.
He was taken in the fifth-round of the 2021 NHL Draft by the Canadiens and really found his game during the 2021-22 season. There's certainly potential for him to be a late round steal by the Habs.
