The league’s leading point getter from last season, Sean Couturier, recorded a goal and an assist for Team White. Quebec league star-to-be Louis Leblanc scored two goals for White.
Team White would take the game by score of 6-3.
“I still have a bad taste in my mouth from being cut from camp last year,” said Leblanc to the Canadian Press (via HockeyCanada.ca). “I came here ready and when the puck dropped I think our line was ready with (Sean) Couturier and (Quinton) Howden.
“Things were clicking and I think we got the job done.”
The two teams play their final game tonight at Mile One Centre.
Team Red defencemen Simon Despres and Nathan Beaulieu were held pointless in the game. According to the Hockey Canada Twitter account, Beaulieu was paired with Stefan Elliot, a 2009 Colorado Avalanche second round draft choice who plays for the Western Hockey League’s Saskatoon Blades. The only other Saint John Sea Dog at camp, Despres, played alongside Buffalo Sabres 2010 first round draft pick and current Edmonton Oil King Mark Pysyk.
The Canadian Press reports that an announced crowd of 2,346 turned out at Mile One Centre to watch the game. This was the first major junior hockey event held on the rock since the St. John’s Fog Devils relocated to Verdun, Quebec to become the Montreal Junior.
With a capacity of 6,250, the game only filled 37.5% of the building.
