POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 4, Foreurs 1

A collection of recaps from last night’s 4-1 Saint John Sea Dogs win over the Val-d’Or Foreurs:

Our recap. Saint John ended their road trip on a winning note.

L’Echo Abitibien’s recap. Foreurs Head Coach Marc-Andre Dumont was not satisfied with his team’s offensive efforts on Saturday. The Foreurs fired only 15 shots.

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s reacp. The Sea Dogs ended the Foreurs’ shutout streak.

SN Live Blog Replay. It wasn’t the most exciting game of the season.

OUT OF ACTION: Defenseman Ian Saab returned from a suspension so Tyrone Sock was a healthy scratch. Forward Stanislav Galiev missed the game with a broken wrist.

SAAB’S FIRST POINT: Speaking of Saab, he recorded his first point as a member of the Sea Dogs when he assisted on Zack Phillips’ second period goal. He was also a +1 with one shot.

The defenseman also picked up a roughing penalty. He has gotten some kind of penalty in all six games he has played in this season.

SHOTS: According to News 88.9, the Sea Dogs tied a team record for fewest shots allowed in a game. The Foreurs could only fire 15 on Mathieu Corbeil. Despite not being tested too much, Corbeil was named second star.

Neither team had a great night offensively in the first half of the game. The first period hardly had any legit scoring chances. Once Phillips broke the ice late in the second period, things picked up.

PHILLIPS: Phillips had a big night for Saint John, recording two goals and one assist. The three points give him 15 on the year and possession of the team scoring lead.

It was Phillips’ first two-goal game and first three-point game of the season.

SHUTOUT STREAK: Phillips’ second period marker ended an impressive shutout streak for the Foreurs. Val-d’Or had not allowed a goal since the third period of a game on October 5. They produced two straight shutouts following that game.

CONGRATS: Fredericton native Matt Murphy, a rookie defenseman for the Foreurs, recorded his first career QMJHL point by assisting on Nicolas Marcoux’s third period goal.

JUMBOTRON: The Air Creebec Centre has a centre ice score clock that is similar to the one at the Moncton Coliseum. Unlike the Coliseum, the Foreurs play the most bizarre videos on it.

In the first intermission, some music video and random hockey goals were played. There were some more tunes in the second along with some other strange stuff.

MASCOT: The Foreurs have a solid mascot.

ROAD TRIP: This win ended the Sea Dogs’ three-game Quebec road trip on a happy note. They went 2-1-0-0 on the trip and outscored their opponents 14-10. It got off to a rocky start, losing 5-1 in Gatineau against the Olympiques on Wednesday. But Saint John got back on track, winning 9-4 in Rouyn-Noranda on Friday an 4-1 in Val-d’Or last night.

END OF THE QUEBEC SWING: Saturday’s game was the end of a unique streak for the Sea Dogs. It marked the end of a stretch that saw the Sea Dogs play eight consecutive games against Quebec based teams. The last time Saint John played a division rival was back on September 24 against Bathurst.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs travel to Halifax on Friday to face the Mooseheads at 7pm. It is the first meeting between the two teams this season. Halifax is one of the hottest teams in the league at the moment having won five straight games.
