It looks like Charlie Coyle will indeed become a Saint
John Sea Dog.
Coyle confirmed to The Pipeline Show this afternoon that
he will be leaving Boston University and joining the Sea Dogs. Coyle is
currently in Alberta to take part in Team USA’s training camp for the World
Junior Hockey Championship.
“According to Coyle, his leaving BU for #QMJHL is not due
to poor academics but just to focus 100% on hockey,” tweeted TPS.
The Boston Hockey Blog is reporting the same thing. "
Mike McMahon, who does a unreal job at covering the NCAA,
sent out the following tweets this morning.
Source just told me Coyle is signing with Saint John. Minnesota told him they would sign him and assign him to Houston (AHL) but he decided on the QMHJL route. He'll play there this season and Minnesota will likely sign him before the start of next season.
According to the same source, the Wild were fine with his decision (AHL or QMJHL) either way. It was completely left up to him.
Personally, the CHL is a good place for him now. Playing against players his own age. He'll dominate in that league.

Also, I have confirmed blog reports out of Boston that Charlie Coyle is leaving Boston University and will play for Saint John of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Wild would have been willing to sign him and place him in Houston, but Coyle's made the decision to play junior. The Wild still owns his rights for two more years and will likely sign him before next season.
