GORMLEY
More details about Brandon Gormley’s injury at the end of
Saturday’s game have come out. According to The Guardian, “Gormley dove to
knock the puck away from Sea Dogs' star Charlie Coyle.
“In the process, the heel of Coyle's skate came up and
struck him in the throat.
“The skate just missed Gormley's jugular, leaving a
two-and-a-half inch cut on the left side of his neck.”
Gormley was taken to a hospital and received two stiches.
He apparently had to wait six hours in the hospital because of other emergency
incidents. He also suffered a bruised left foot in the game but hopes to play
on Wednesday against Bathurst at the Bionest Centre.
Also according to The Gurdian, Kirill Kabanov, who got
smoked by Jason Cameron in the third period, suffered a concussion.
JURCO
Because basically every Tomas Jurco goal is placed on
YouTube now, here’s the shootout goal he scored on Friday in Drummondville.
The Sea Dogs have another long layoff between games this
week. After beating the Cataractes 2-1 in Shawinigan on Saturday, they do not
play again until this Saturday in PEI against the Rocket.
The Rocket are playing some good hockey right now as they
try and grab that final playoff spot. They have won three straight and are
currently holding onto the final playoff spot with 38 points, one-point ahead
of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
The Sea Dogs return to Harbour Station this Sunday when
they host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 3pm.
COYLE
Scott Briggs had an article about Charlie Coyle last week on the QMJHL website. Coyle talks about a number of things, including his hot
start to his Q career.
“I like the style of play here,’’ Coyle said. “It’s
pretty different from college. I’m not taking away from (the) college game or
anything. Up here, there are younger players compared to college, but they’re
all skilled and the speed of the game is pretty good, too… I’m going to be
learning a lot in the next few weeks and I’m looking forward to that.’’
Coyle has six goals and four assists in his first eight
games with Saint John.
Of note, Boston University is 6-2-1 since the calendar switched
to 2012. They are 16-8-1 overall this season and 13-6-1 in conference play.
BEAUREGARD
Former Sea Dog Alexandre Beauregard spoke to the media on
Saturday in Chicoutimi for the first time since being diagnosed with thyroid
cancer.
“On my way to the Hospital .. It time to kill that shit
inside me #surgeryday,” Beauregard tweeted on January 29.
On Saturday, the Sea Dogs’ playoff hero said he is taking
several medications since his surgery. He still hopes to be back for the Sagueneens’
playoff run.
"I'm fine. I take medication for four days and my
goal is always to return to play for the playoffs. I count on the support of my
family and my team. The hardest part was when I heard the news of cancer. I was
with my mother and her reaction, like that of my family, has not been easy. I
have asked many questions about my future hockey, " he said, as translated by Google.
HOT
The Sea Dogs have been named the QMJHL’s “hot team” by
Sportsnet again this week.
“The defending MasterCard Memorial Cup champs are peaking
