VIDEO: Saturday's Controversial Hits

Video of the two controversial hits from Saturday’s 2-1 Saint John Sea Dogs road win over the Shawinigan Cataractes has surfaced.

Here’s Jason Cameron’s hit on Kirill Kabanov, a play that happened at 8:54 of the third period. Video courtesy of HockeyFights.com.

Cameron was given a five-minute major for checking to the head and a game misconduct. Kabanov reportedly suffered a concussion.

Cameron obviously wasn’t too happy about the events, yelling in Kabanov’s direction as he was escorted off the ice.

The second controversial hit came at 16:33 of the third when Jonathan Racine nailed Jonathan Huberdeau.

Like Cameron, Racine was given a five-minute major and match penalty for checking to the head. Huberdeau would be okay, scoring the game-winner on the power play with 30 seconds remaining in the contest.

It’s safe to assume both of these hits will be reviewed by the league. We don’t even know what qualifies as a suspendable hit in the QMJHL or hockey in general anymore, so we’ll see what happens.

The Sea Dogs and Cataractes meet again on March 11 in Shawinigan for what should be another wild game.

  1. The camera work is so shoddy on some of these webcasts. I can't believe they charge to watch this.
