The Saint John Sea Dogs are getting some reinforcements.
The American Hockey League’s Hamilton Bulldogs announced today that they have released forward Stephen MacAulay and defenseman Kevin
Gagne from their training camp roster, assigning them back to Saint John.
Both Gagne and MacAulay were free agent invites to
Bulldogs camp. According to multiple reports, both impressed so much that there
were thoughts they may have played their last games as Sea Dogs. But, that
didn’t happen, and the duo are on their way back to the Quebec Major Junior
Hockey League.
Gagne recorded a goal and three assists in three games
with Sea Dogs before leaving for Bulldogs camp. MacAulay registered two goals
and two assists in three games. Both players have with the Sea Dogs since the
2008-09 season.
Both will be a welcome addition to a team that is neither
deep on offense or defense. The Sea Dogs had been managing without the two until this past weekend when they lost a pair of games to the Halifax Mooseheads and
were outscored a combined 15-5.
With Gagne and MacAulay both away and Pierre Durepos
hurt, Saint John has been dressing Jason Seed as their only 20-year old over the
past few games.
The Sea Dogs are in Charlottetown tonight to face the PEI Rocket before returning home for games on Friday and Saturday at Harbour Station.
