Canada, Quebec Both Finish 4th

With a 6-5 overtime loss to Russia in today’s bronze medal game, Team Canada will be coming home without any hardware.

Canada never led on Saturday and trailed for much of it. As a result, they finish fourth at the 2013 World Junior Hockey Championship and fail to medal for the first time since 1998. The United States won gold and Sweden took home silver.

Saint John Sea Dogs captain Jonathan Huberdeau had one of his better games of the tournament today. Huberdeau had a goal, an assist, five shots, and a -1 rating in the loss.

His goal came on the power play at 15:51 of the first period.

His assist came on Ryan Murphy’s second period goal, a goal that tied the game 4-4.

Huberdeau finishes the tournament with three goals and six assists for nine points in six games. His nine points were the second most on the team behind Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

Huberdeau had a goal and eight assists with Team Canada last year.

FINAL: Quebec 3, United States 4

Olivier LeBlanc and Team Quebec finished fourth at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge yesterday, dropping the bronze medal game 4-3 to the United States.

LeBlanc did not record any points in the game. He finishes the tournament third on the team in scoring with a goal and three assists in six games.
