POSTSCRIPT: Sea Dogs 1, Tigres 2

SaintJohnSeaDogs.com’s recap. The Saint John Sea Dogs met the Victoriaville Tigres in a midweek road contest in Wednesday’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. The Tigres came out on top by a score of 2-1 at the Colisée Desjardins.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without Jurij Repe (broken hand), Connor Donaghey (shoulder), Michael Abbott (lower body), and Brett Malone (healthy) on Wednesday night.

News 88.9 reported before the game that Repe could return to the Saint John lineup as early as Friday. He has not played since November 25 due the Division 1 world juniors where he broke his hand.

THE START: The Sea Dogs had a better first period then they did on Saturday against Sherbrooke, firing six shots on net. The Tigres were a bit sluggish at the start of the game but had some good pressure on late. They had 11 shots with seven of them being dangerous. The score was 0-0 after one.

HIGHMORE: Rookie forward Matthew Highmore left the game early in the second period and did not return. Hopefully it is nothing serious. Highmore has played in just 18 games this season due to shoulder surgery recovery and the World Under-17s.

VILLEMAIRE: Early in the second, Maxime Villemaire got dumped as he tried to cross the blue line. It appeared to be somewhat of an old school hip check as Villemaire made contact with the Tigres player and flipped into the air and over him. He would be okay.

AUGER: Goaltender Sebastien Auger made a few unreal saves in the second period, keeping the Sea Dogs in front through 40 minutes. Shots were 14-9 Tigres in the middle stanza and 33-23 overall. Despite not picking up the win, Auger was named second star for his efforts.

ANDERSON: Thanks to a great feed from Jakub Izacky, Stephen Anderson opened the scoring at 16:20 of the second. It was Anderson’s sixth goal of the season which ties his mark from last season.

SCORING FIRST: Saint John opened the scoring with Anderson’s second period goal. It was just the 15^th time this season that the Sea Dogs had scored first in a game. They are 10-5-0-0 in those games.

POWER PLAY: Saint John’s power play just ain’t looking good these days – which is not that surprising given they do not have a whole lot of firepower at the moment. They went 0-for-3 last night

HEARTBREAK: Angelo Miceli’s power play goal at 16:50 proved to be the game winner. The Dogs entered the third up 1-0 but gave up two unanswered goals. Saint John fell to 9-1-0-0 when leading after two periods.

STREAK: The Sea Dogs have now lost four straight and are just 1-9-0-0 in their last 10 games. The Dogs have been outscored 14-4 during their losing streak.

STANDINGS: The Sea Dogs fell to 19-29-0-0 with last night’s loss and remain in 15^th-place overall. They are four points up on the Sherbrooke Phoenix who hold the final playoff spot.

NOTES: The Sea Dogs and Tigres meet again on March 1 at Harbour Station… not one Sea Dogs player had more than two shots. Odd… Maxime Villemaire had three hits… Philippe Maillet had five shots… Philippe Hudon had three hits.
