RECAP: Close One. Dogs Lose 2-1.

FINAL: Saint John 1, Victoriaville 2

The Saint John Sea Dogs travelled to the Colisee Desjardins on Wednesday to face off against the Victoriaville Tigres.

It was the Sea Dogs’ Sebastien Auger who started in net for the visitors while Brandon Whitney took net for the Tigres.

FIRST PERIOD

Philippe Hudon started things off early on for Victo in the penalty department as he was ushered off at 1:16 for a boarding penalty.

Tripping was the call for Stephen Anderson at 2:08. He would send the Sea Dogs to the penalty kill, their first of the game.

Carl Chenier took a holding penalty at 5:46, sending the Tigres onto the defensive.

Matthew Highmore took the last penalty of the period at 18:05 as an unfortunate slashing call sent him to the box.

That would end the scoreless period. Shots on goal were 6 – 11 in favour of Victo.

SECOND PERIOD

It was confusion for the Sea Dogs at the start of the period as Andreas Tsogkas gets sent to the box to serve a “too many men on the ice” penalty at 1:16.

It was double penalties at the 4:12 mark as Maxime Villemaire got called for diving while Michael Rheaume headed off for interference.

Soon after, Philippe Halley, Victoriaville’s captain, was sent to the penalty box for tripping. This would again send Saint John on the offensive and back to the power play.

Sea Dogs fans cheered back at home as Stephen Anderson, assisted by Izacky and Weckworth, put the first point of the game up on the board at 16:20.

That would end the second period with a score of 1-0 for Saint John. Shots on goal were 9 – 14 for Victo.

THIRD PERIOD

The energy picked up in the third as both teams gave it their all to ensure they would bring home the win.

Victoriaville’s Philippe Maillet tied the game 1-1 at 3:59 as he was able to slide one through Auger’s guard.

Oliver Cooper took a hooking call at 8:34 while Jason Cameron repeated the penalty at 14:56.

Angelo Miceli stepped up to make use of the Cameron penalty. With assists from Maillet and Sidlik, Miceli scored to break the tie, making it 2-1 for Victoriaville at 16:50.

Miceli’s goal would seal the deal for the Dogs and Tigres. In the end, the Dogs would leave with nothing and the Tigres would celebrate another win. Shots on goal were an even 8-8 in the third.
