Drakkar Have Life

We have a series.

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar defeated the Halifax Mooseheads 3-1 in Game 3 of the 2013 President Cup Final on Tuesday night at the Henry Leonard Centre. The Moose now lead the best-of-seven series 2-1 heading into Game 4 tomorrow night.

The loss was Halifax’s first of the playoffs. They had won 14 straight post-season games entering the contest. It was also the first time the Moose have scored two or less goals in a game since Game 2 of their first-round series against Saint John.

Valentin Zykov, Gabriel Paquin-Boudreau, and Carl Gelinas had Baie-Comeau goals. Andrew Ryan scored Halifax’s lone marker. Philippe Cadorette made 27 saves in the win while Zach Fucale made 27 in the loss.

The Drakkar led 1-0 entering the third and 2-0 when Paquin-Boudreau connected at 2:49 of the final stanza. Ryan scored midway through the frame to make a game of it but Gelinas sealed the deal with an empty netter at 19:02.

Former Sea Dog Stephen MacAulay was a -1 with four shots in the loss. He also went 7/10 in faceoffs.

A loss might be good for Halifax. You don’t want to head into the Memorial Cup now knowing how to recover from one. Game 4 is tomorrow night in Baie-Comeau before the series shifts back to Halifax for Game 5 on Friday night.

Elsewhere on Tuesday night…

• Simon Despres was a scratch for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 4 of their first-round series against the New York Islanders. The Isles won the game 6-4, tying the series at 2-2.
• Charlie Coyle was a -2 with three shots, two hits, and two penalty minutes in 17:03 minutes of ice time as the Minnesota Wild lost 3-0 to the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago leads the series 3-1.
