RECAP: Weckworth Wins It. Dogs Win 3-2.

FINAL: Charlottetown 2, Saint John 3

SAINT JOHN – David Weckworth picked a great time to score his second career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal.

The overage defenseman scored his first goal since December 17^th, 2010 and it proved to be the game-winner in the Saint John Sea Dogs’ 3-2 victory over the Charlottetown Islanders on Friday night at Harbour Station.

The win gives the Sea Dogs back-to-back victories as well as points in each of their past three games.

Samuel Dove-McFalls and Olivier LeBlanc also scored for Saint John in the win. Sebastien Auger was busy in net once again, making 36 saves.

The Islanders, who have now lost 10 straight road games, had goals from Nathan Yetman and Kameron Kielly. Eric Brassard made 28 saves in the loss.

Saint John had quite a first period, outshooting Charlottetown 19-5. Dove-McFalls opened the scoring at 5:38 to give the Dogs a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Yetman tied the game with his first of the season at 3:23 of the second. LeBlanc would put Saint John back in front at 17:08 but then Kielly tied things up again at 18:10. It would remain 2-2 heading into the third.

Just like on Wednesday in Moncton, Saint John was massively outshot by their opponent in the third. Shots ended up being 21-5 in favour of the Isles in the final frame. Despite that, the Dogs would score the only goal of the period at 18:30 as Weckworth’s point shot beat Brassard to make it a 3-2 final.

Overall, shots were 38-31 in favour of the visitors.

Saint John went 0-for-6 on the power play while Charlottetown went 0-for-3.

NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs return to action tomorrow night at Harbour Station when they host the Drummondville Voltigeurs at 7pm.
