McQuaid Traded To Quebec

SAINT JOHN – The Sea Dogs have made another trade.

Defenseman Alexander McQuaid and a 2015 fifth-round pick have been traded to the Quebec Remparts in exchange for defenseman Louis-Philip Fortin and a 2017 fourth-round pick.

McQuaid, 18, was selected in the fourth-round by the Sea Dogs in the 2013 QMJHL Entry Draft. Last season, the Meadow Bank, PEI native registered three assists and 134 penalty minutes in 53 games with Saint John.

McQuaid, who is cousins with Adam McQuaid, played in Saturday’s pre-season game in Dartmouth and registered nine penalty minutes – two minor roughing penalties and a fighting major.

Fortin, 16, was a fifth-round pick of the Remparts in this summer’s QMJHL Entry Draft. In 41 games with the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League’s Magog Cantonniers he recorded two goals and six assists. He added three assists in 10 playoff games.

Assuming Fortin, a Sherbrooke native, reports to Saint John, there will be 10 defensemen remaining at Sea Dogs training camp.

Sea Dogs camp continues this week. Their next pre-season game is on Friday night at Harbour Station against the Halifax Mooseheads.
