FINAL: Saint John 4, Quebec 2
By Kevin Chambers | SN Staff

SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs kicked off their first road trip through Quebec this season on Friday night, taking on the Remparts at Quebec City’s Centre Videotron.

The Sea Dogs continued their winning ways, picking up their fourth straight win by knocking off the Remparts 4-2.

Goal scorers for the Sea Dogs were Samuel Dove-McFalls (two), Bokondji Imama and Matthew Highmore. Alex Bishop picked up his third win of the season by stopping 14 of the 16 shots he faced.

Remparts goal scorers were Ross MacDougall and Louis-Filip Cote. Callum Booth took the loss, making 31 saves on 34 opportunities.

To the notes…

  • MacDougall, the St. Stephen native, scored the game’s opening goal with a blast from the top of the circle that beat Bishop at 12:12.
  • Dove-McFalls was able to pick up his first goal of the season at 18:30, chipping a rebound past Booth to knot things at a goal apiece.
  • The Remparts regained their lead when Cote finished off a two-on-one rush, tucking the puck around a downed Bishop at 7:26.
  • Imama evened the game again at 2-2 with his first goal of the campaign at 15:31, firing a wrist shot over the glove hand of Booth.
  • Just as Imama scored, Nathan Noel picked up a double minor for spearing. Ironically, Noel also assisted on Imama’s goal (eventful shift). The Sea Dogs did kill the double minor.
  • The Sea Dogs took their first lead of the game when Joe Veleno found a streaking Highmore at 3:11, tapping in his fourth goal and 10th point of the season.
  • Including tonight, the Sea Dogs have outshot their opponents in every game by a total of 240-125 over the span of six games.
  • In three of Saint John’s first six games, the Sea Dogs have held their opponents to under 20 shots.
  • Highmore leads the team in shots with 27 over his first six games. Highmore also moved into a tie for fourth in points in the QMJHL scoring race with 10.
  • Coupled with Charlottetown’s loss, the Sea Dogs have moved into a tie for first place in the Maritimes Division with eight points.
  • The dangerous Sea Dogs power play didn’t get a chance to work until the 12:57 mark of the third period, going 0-1 in the game.
  • Chase Stewart picked up two penalty minutes tonight, currently leading the team with 15 penalty minutes in his first five QMJHL games.
