Recap: Sea Dogs win 8-3

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs wasted little time getting back in the win column.

After having their 10-game winning streak come to an end on Thursday in Charlottetown, the Sea Dogs had a fairly easy time defeating the Moncton Wildcats 8-3 on Friday at TD Station.

William Dufour ended his goalless drought, scoring twice. Riley Bezeau, Raivis Ansons, Brady Burns, Philippe Daoust, Jeremie Poirier and Connor Trenholm added singles. Josh Lawrence had four assists.

Thomas Couture made 14 stops in the victory.

The Sea Dogs got off a to great start, scoring twice in the opening six minutes. They led 4-0 after one, outshooting the Wildcats 14-5.

The Wildcats had some momentum going early in the second period, but that would be the only blip in the Sea Dogs' game. Saint John would outshoot Moncton 16-2 in the third period and 48-17 overall.

Alex Mercier, Brooklyn Kalmikov and Maxim Barbashev had Wildcats goals. Vincent Fillion was chased from the net after allowing four goals on 14 shots in the opening frame. Jonathan Lemieux allowed four goals on 34 shots in the final two periods.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without goaltender Noah Patenaude (injury); defenseman Yan Kuznetsov (injury); and forwards Peter Reynolds (injury) and Jacob Chantler (healthy).

DUFOUR: After going four straight games without a goal, William Dufour got his scoring touch back on Saturday, scoring twice. He now leads the league in both goals (44) and points (91). Dufour also extended his point streak to 13 games.
SHORTIES: The Sea Dogs scored a pair of shorthanded goals in this game. The team has now scored a league high 13 shorties this season.

DAOUST: Philippe Daoust has now scored in six straight home games. The overager has been on fire lately, scoring six goals over his past five games.
