Pre-Season Game Day 3: vs Titan

FREDERICTON - The Saint John Sea Dogs return to pre-season action tonight at Fredericton's Aitken Centre.

The Sea Dogs are off to a strong start this pre-season, posting back-to-back wins over the Moncton Wildcats last week. The team outscored the Wildcats by a combined 10-3 over the two games.

The Sea Dogs face a new opponent tonight in the Acadie-Bathurst Titan - who have a familiar face behind the bench. Gordie Dwyer, who was fired as Sea Dogs head coach not long after the team was eliminated from the first-round of the QMJHL playoffs, was recently named head coach and general manager of the Titan.

Game time tonight is 7 p.m.

Pre-Season Records: The Sea Dogs are 2-0-0-0 this pre-season while the Titan are 1-0-0-0.

2021-22 records: The Sea Dogs finished with a record of 47-17-1-3 for 98 points (second Maritimes/third Eastern/third QMJHL) while the Titan went 40-22-3-3 for 86 points (third Maritimes/fourth Eastern/sixth QMJHL). Saint John was eliminated in the opening round of the QMJHL playoffs and went on to win the Memorial Cup as the host team. The Titan were eliminated in the second round.

Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 5-1 win over the Moncton Wildcats in Dieppe on Friday. Louis Dumais, Pavel Simek, Eliott Simard, Danny Akkouche and Cael MacDonald scored for Saint John. Olivier Brideau made 22 stops in the win. The Titan are coming off a 6-2 win over the Cape Breton Eagles in Truro on Friday. Blake Pilgrim-Edwards and Gabriel Théorêt each scored twice while singles came from Dominik Godin and Brennan Murphy. Joshua Fleming allowed a goal on eight shots in the first half of the game while Mathis Lacroix-Goulet allowed a goal on nine shots in the second half.

2021-22 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs went 5-2-1-1 against the Titan last season while Bathurst went 4-4-0-1 against Saint John.

Last meeting: April 22 in Bathurst where the Sea Dogs defeated the Titan 4-2. Josh Lawrence scored a pair of goals for Saint John while Ryan Francis and Raivis Ansons added solo markers. Joseph Henneberry and Thomas Belgarde scored for Bathurst. Thomas Couture made 25 saves in the win. Jan Bednar made 30 stops in the loss.

Notes: The Titan's first pre-season game, scheduled for last Thursday in Truro, was cancelled due to a bus issue... Saint John's training camp roster can be found here...
