After a strong season opening victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, the Sea Dogs ran into some struggles last Saturday, falling 4-1 to the Moncton Wildcats. Saint John's few returning players were key in that victory over the Titan, but the Wildcats were able to shut them down.
The Sea Dogs will look to get back in the win column against a team that is also entering a rebuild. After making it all the way to the President Cup final last season, the Charlottetown Islanders have a much different looking club due to graduation and trades.
Saint John and Charlottetown had some great battles last season at the top of the Maritimes Division. They might have some great games this season as well, but probably won't be fighting for first place.

2021-22 regular season records: The Sea Dogs finished with a record of 47-17-1-3 for 98 points (second Maritimes/third Eastern/third QMJHL) while the Islanders went 48-13-7-0 for 103 points (first Maritimes/second Eastern/second QMJHL). The Sea Dogs were eliminated in the opening round of the QMJHL playoffs while the Islanders fell in the league final. Saint John went on to win the Memorial Cup as the host team.
Last games: The Sea Dogs are coming off a 4-1 home loss to the Moncton Wildcats on Saturday. Cole Burbidge scored Saint John's lone goal while Ventsislav Shingarov made 31 saves in the loss. The Islanders are coming off a 2-1 overtime win in Bathurst on Saturday. Alexis Michaud and Patrick LeBlanc scored for Charlottetown. Francesco Lapenna made 45 saves in the victory.
2022 pre-season head-to-head: These two did not meet in the pre-season.
2021-22 head-to-head: The Sea Dogs went 4-5-0-0 against the Islanders last season while Charlottetown went 5-3-1-0 against Saint John.
Last meeting: April 14 at Eastlink Centre where the Sea Dogs doubled up the Islanders 8-4. Brady Burns and Josh Lawrence each scored a pair of goals for Saint John while singles came from Raivis Ansons, William Dufour, Charlie DesRoches and Philippe Daoust. Xavier Simoneau, Patrick Guay, Lukas Cormier and Dawson Stairs scored for Charlottetown. Thomas Couture made 25 saves in the win. Francesco Lapenna allowed five goals on 13 shots while Olivier Satny allowed a goal on six shots.

Islander to watch: Jakub Brabenec is back from Vegas Golden Knights camp and is expected to make his season debut tonight. The 19-year-old forward was the QMJHL rookie of the year last season after registering 64 points in 58 games.
Random stat: Saint John is just 10-24-2-2 against Charlottetown over the past five seasons.
Notes: Brady Burns and Peter Reynolds each have a Saint John high three points... Burns leads the team in goals with two... Reynolds and Charlie DesRoches each have a team high two helpers... Keiran Gallant leads the Islanders in points with two and assists with two... Patrick LeBlanc and Alexis Michaud lead Charlottetown in goals with one each... this is just the second game of the season for Charlottetown due to Hurricane Fiona.
