Sea Dogs acquire Éthier, Fullerton

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John Sea Dogs made a couple trades prior to Sunday's Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League summer deadline.

The Sea Dogs acquired the rights to two overage forwards: Natan Éthier from the Shawinigan Cataractes for a fifth-round draft pick in 2028 and Angelo Fullerton from the Cape Breton Eagles for a sixth-round pick in 2027. Both had been attending Sea Dogs training camp on loans.

The deals certainly create some questions about Saint John's overage situation. The team previously signed forward Chris Barlas and defenseman Alexis Daviault from the OHL. We'll see how this all plays out.

Éthier appeared in two pre-season games with the Sea Dogs, scoring once. He appeared in just five games with the Cataractes last season after suffering an early season injury that required surgery.

In 169 career QMJHL games, Éthier has 24 goals and 45 assists.

Fullerton scored twice in Saint John's 6-5 overtime loss to the Newfoundland Regiment on Saturday, giving him three goals in three pre-season games. He posted six goals and 10 assists in 46 games with Cape Breton last season.

In 156 career QMJHL games, the Quispamsis native has 19 goals and 21 assists.

The Sea Dogs are back in pre-season action on Thursday, taking on the Regiment in Fredericton again. Saint John will presumably have announced quite a few roster moves prior to that match.
