RECAP: Sea Dogs lose 8-1

FINAL: Blainville-Boisbriand 8, Saint John 1
SAINT JOHN - It was a night to forget for the Saint John Dogs.

The Blainville-Boisbriand Armada scored three goals in first period and four in the second in an 8-1 blowout victory of the Sea Dogs on Friday night at Harbour Station. The loss ended Saint John's three-game winning streak and sent the team back below the .500 mark.

The Sea Dogs got off to bad start and were never able to recover in what was the squad's worst loss of the season. The Armada's three goals in the first period came on just eight shots, but it was hard to fault Alex D'Orio on any of them. It was simply a rough, rough night for Saint John.

D'Orio was pulled in the second period after allowing five goals on 15 shots. Matt Williams allowed three goals on 19 shots in relief.

Daniel Hardie scored Saint John's lone goal on the night.

Alexander Katerinakis scored two goals for the Armada while singles came from Ryan DaSilva, Anthony Poulin, Connor Bramwell, Jan Hladonik, Thomas Ethier and Charles-Antoine Giguere. Goaltender Emile Samson, making his QMJHL debut, made 27 saves in his first career victory.

William Poirier was called for a trip and Radim Salda for interference at 4:14 of the first period. During the five-on-three advantage, DaSilva scored with a shot from the high slot to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

Then, during the five-on-four, a point shot was redirected beautifully by Poulin past D'Orio, making it 2-0 Armada at 5:56.

Saint John went to the power play at 8:34, but it would be the Armada scoring. After a Sea Dogs turnover, Katerinakis walked in front of D'Orio and fired a shot top corner to make it 3-0.

Maxime Collin nearly made it 4-0 late in the first but hit the crossbar.

It wasn't a pretty first by the Sea Dogs, who have enjoyed strong opening periods in all of their past few games. Shots were just 8-8.

The Armada took an early 4-0 lead at 1:30 of the second. After D'Orio made a couple of great stops, Bramwell got one by the Sea Dogs' 'tender.

At 4:26, Katerinakis netted his second, quickly wiring shot from the top of the circle following an Armada faceoff win. That would end D'Orio's night.

The Armada made it 6-0 at 6:57 when Hladonick beat Williams with a wrist shot. Then at 9:21, Ethier scored, making it four goals in a 7:51 span.

The third period was fairly uneventful. Hardie ended Samson's shutout bid with 5:30 remaining, beating the rookie netminder five hole.

The Armada added one late thanks to Giguere, making it an 8-1 final.
