SAINT JOHN
- The Saint John Sea Dogs came up short on Saturday night at TD Station, falling 6-3 to the Val-d'Or Foreurs.

The Sea Dogs put in a solid performance, outshooting the Foreurs 43-24. But a strong showing in net by Adam Rouleau coupled with Val-d'Or taking advantage of some key opportunities led to a road victory for the green and gold. The Foreurs went 3/4 on the power play and also scored a shorthanded marker.

The Foreurs won all three games of their Maritime road trip, beating Halifax, Charlottetown and Saint John. They have now won four straight road games.

Alexandre Doucet scored a pair of goals for Val-d'Or while singles came from Louis Robin, Justin Robidas, William Provost and Alexandre Guy. Rouleau made 40 saves in the win.

Pavel Simek, Nicolas Bildeau and Cole Burbidge scored for Saint John. Ventsislav Shingarov made 18 saves in the loss.

Saint John's top line of Peter Reynolds, Cam MacDonald and Brady Burns was buzzing for much of the game but could not convert. Reynolds had a short breakaway broken up in the second period and was robbed in the third period, which would have made it a one-goal game.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without goaltender Olivier Brideau (healthy); defensemen Jared Cosman (injury) and Jeremie Richard (injury); and forwards Tomasz Szczerba (injury) and Jacob Beaulieu (healthy).

SUSPENDED: Former Sea Dogs defenseman Kale McCallum, who leads all QMJHL d-men in scoring, did not play in this game, serving a one-game suspension for a high sticking match penalty he received on Friday in Charlottetown.

LATE ARRIVAL: The game was delayed 90 minutes due to the Foreurs' late arrival. According to a Sea Dogs press release issued at 4:40 p.m., "due to extreme winds delaying travel for the Val-d’Or Foreurs, tonight’s puck drop has been delayed to 8:30 p.m. Doors to TD Station will still open at 6 p.m." The Foreurs played in Charlottetown on Friday night.

WEIRD GOAL: This game had some weird moments, and perhaps the weirdest came at 15:26 of the first when Val-d'Or goaltender Adam Rouleau tried to clear/pass the puck from behind his own net but hit Felix Lunam. Lunam, making his QMJHL debut, bobbled the puck, allowing it to eventually cross the goal line. Credit for the goal was given to Nicolas Bilodeau.
WELCOME BACK: Former Sea Dogs defenseman Nathan Drapeau, who helped the club win the Memorial Cup in June, made his return to TD Station. He was briefly honoured during a stoppage in the first period.
SPECIAL TEAMS: The Foreurs took advantage of Saint John's penalty killing woes, scoring on all three of their opportunities in the first period. They finished the game 3/4. They also scored a shorthanded goal while Saint John went 0/3 on the power play.

NOTES: Before the game, Area 506 organizers were honoured for recently winning the Canadian Innovator of the Year award at the Canadian Tourism Awards. A mini shipping container was used instead of a puck for the ceremonial puck drop... Pavel Simek's goal was his first since Oct. 27... Alexandre Doucet has now scored in four straight road games... Val-d'Or scored their league-leading ninth shorthanded goal of the season in the second period... another low key two assist night for Nate Tivey... Sam-Luca Thifault had six shots...  attendance was 2,146.

HIGHLIGHTS
