Recap: Sea Dogs win 4-2

FINAL: Saint John 4, Charlottetown 2
CHARLOTTETOWN - The Saint John Sea Dogs ended Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League pre-season play with a win on Saturday.

Alexis Joseph scored twice to help the Sea Dogs defeat the Charlottetown Islanders 4-2 at MacLauchlan Arena on the UPEI campus. Natan Éthier and William Yared also scored while goaltender Rafaël Courchesne, playing his first full game of the pre-season, made 24 saves in the win.

CJ Watroba and Ross Campbell had Charlottetown goals. Donald Hickey made 31 saves in the loss.

The two teams were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes. The Sea Dogs turned it up a notch in the second, outshooting the Islanders 16-8 and scoring twice. Yared put Saint John back in front at 7:24 and then Joseph scored a shorthanded marker at 16:52 to give the Dogs a 3-1 lead entering the third.

Campbell scored on a power play at 7:33 of the third to make it a one-goal game. The Islanders pulled Hickey with a couple minutes remaining but Joseph would ice the game with an empty-netter at 19:24 to make it a 4-2 final.

The win means the Sea Dogs finish the pre-season with a 1-3-2-0 record to go along with a tie. The Islanders, meanwhile, fell to 0-4-0-0 with one game remaining.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without forward Dylan Rozzi along with defensemen Olivier Duhamel, Everett Baldwin and Max Vilén.

NOTES: Affiliate defenseman Jesse Dunlap and Julien Lacroix dressed for a second straight game... former Sea Dogs defenseman Matthew MacLean dressed for the Islanders. Former Sea Dogs forward Tyler Peddle did not... William Yared and Alexis Jospeh both scored their first goals of the pre-season... Rafaël Courchesne recorded an assist on Joseph's shorthanded goal in the second period... Joseph had six shots... there were two fights in the third period: Zachary Morin vs MacLean and Jacob Beaulieu vs Nikita Voyaga... Matthew Krayer finishes the pre-season with five assists... this was Saint John's first visit to MacLauchlan Arena since 2023... attendance was 603... the Islanders conclude pre-season play on Sunday against the Moncton Wildcats... the Sea Dogs and Islanders meet in the regular season for the first time on Oct. 10 in Charlottetown.
