Notebook: The Beaulieu/Murphy fight

Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs
Jacob Beaulieu is getting plenty of praise for his fight against Will Murphy during Saturday's game against the Cape Breton Eagles.

Beaulieu, listed at 5'9" and 175 lbs, dropped the gloves with Murphy, listed at 6'4" and 211 lbs, during the first period. Both players were given fighting majors and game misconducts.

The game was 1-1 at the time and the Saint John Sea Dogs went on to lose the game 7-3. Saint John allowed four goals in the second period and were outshot 17-8.

After the game, the fight brought this interesting response from Sea Dogs head coach Travis Crickard, calling his team's response "sad."
DUFOUR DEBUTS
William Dufour made his Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins debut on Friday.

Dufour had one shot and was a +1 in the Penguins' 4-1 victory over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. He played on the team's third line with Aidan McDonough and Gabe Klassen.

Former Sea Dogs forward Boko Imama was also in the Penguins' lineup. Raivis Ansons did not dress.

On Saturday, Dufour posted three shots and was a -2 in the Penguins' 6-2 loss to the Hershey Bears. Imama also played in that game, recording 14 penalty minutes.

Dufour has been on a professional tryout with the Penguins for a few weeks. These were his first AHL games since last season's Calder Cup Playoffs.

GLANCE SCORES VS CHL
17-year-old forward Jamie Glance, a sixth-round pick of the Sea Dogs in the 2024 QMJHL Entry Draft, scored twice in the USNTDP's victory over Team CHL in this year's CHL USA Prospects Challenge.

Glance had an empty net goal in the United States' 4-2 win over Team CHL in the opening game and then scored again as the Americans fell 4-3 in the second game. The USA won the event by scoring in "super overtime."
Glance is in his second year with the USNTDP and is committed to Boston University for the 2027-28 season.

MHL TRADE
There was a major trade in the Maritime Junior Hockey League last week that involved a former Sea Dog.

19-year-old forward Coen Miller, who spent parts of two seasons with the Sea Dogs, was traded to the Miramichi Timberwolves by the Summerside Western Capitals in exchange for Max Jardine. Conditional draft picks were also involved in the deal.

Miller was having a great season with the Capitals and entered the weekend sitting second in MHL scoring with 16 goals and 19 assists in 19 games.

Summerside, who are hosting this year's Centennial Cup national championship, sit first overall in the MHL standings while Miramichi is 11th in the 12-team league.

HUBERDEAU FIGHT
A rare Jonathan Huberdeau fight, in response to a nasty hit by Mikko Rantanen.

It was Huberdeau's first NHL fight since 2018.

OTHER THINGS
  • Wrote about Saint John's attendance last week and some of the positive signs. So, of course, the Sea Dogs had their smallest crowd of the season on Friday with just 2,222 fans in attendance – a rough number for a Friday night.
  • The Moncton Wildcats were ranked 10th in this week's CHL Top-10 rankings. The Sea Dogs will face the Wildcats Thursday in Moncton and Sunday in Saint John.
  • That Sunday game against the Wildcats will be the Saint John's teddy bear toss game.
  • The Sea Dogs will be taking part in Uptown Sparkles this Friday.
  • FloHockey has another article on Sea Dogs rookie forward Alexis Joseph.
  • We need to have a conversation about the TD Station parking lot. Entering: wild that it's almost 2026 and the lot remains cash only. Exiting: I'm not trying to be an anti-bike lane guy, but it's just brutal getting out after games now – and could the light be kept green longer than, like, three seconds?
  • I don't know what's going on over on TikTok. #boomer
  • Boko Imama was called up to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday and played in the team's 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. It was his first NHL game of the season.
  • College Hockey News has a story on Maine Black Bears freshman Justin Poirier, who left the Baie-Comeau Drakkar to play NCAA hockey. His the younger brother of former Sea Dogs defenseman Jeremie Poirier. “For me as the younger brother, I know a little bit because of him, but at first, I just wanted to follow my brother’s footsteps and went to the CHL,” Justin said. “I’m pretty glad and happy to be [here at Maine], I have no regrets at all.”
  • The second half of the Atlantic University Sport men's hockey season is going to be electric. Just look at these standings.
  • The OHL's Brantford Bulldogs finally lost in regulation last Friday, falling 2-1 to the Brampton Steelheads. The loss dropped the league-leading Bulldogs to 18-1-4-1 and they're now 19-2-4-1.
