Joseph nets hat trick in Canada Red win

Hockey Canada
Alexis Jospeh set the tone early and kept it going to lead Team Canada Red to an 8-4 win over Finland on the opening day of the U17 World Challenge on Sunday in Truro.

The Saint John Sea Dogs forward scored 40 seconds in and added two more goals and an assist in the victory. He was named performer of the game.
Joseph is captaining Team Canada Red.

In a pre-tournament game on Friday, Joseph registered two goals and three assists to lead Canada Red to a 7-5 win over Czechia.

Canada Red's next game is on Tuesday night against the United States. The quarterfinals take place Thursday; the semifinals on Friday; and the fifth, bronze and gold medal games on Saturday.

A few other news and notes...
  • The Sea Dogs confirmed Saturday that overage forward Natan Éthier has been reassigned. Éthier has joined the BCHL's West Kelowna Warriors. After recording a hat trick in his debut on Friday, Éthier was held pointless in West Kelowna's 3-1 win over the Brooks Bandits on Saturday.
    • Other former Sea Dogs in the BCHL at the moment include Dylan Krayer (West Kelowna), John Lumsden (Salmon Arm), Parker Forlin (Langley) and Eric Young (Okotoks).
  • Former Sea Dogs captain Spencer Smallman was called up to the Washington Capitals on Saturday but was scratched. The 29-year-old AHL veteran has yet to appear in an NHL game. He has two goals and an assist in six games with the Hershey Bears this season.
  • Finally got to a St. Stephen County Moose game on Saturday, which the home side lost 5-4 to the Woodstock Slammers. Zachary Bridgeo, who was Saint John's backup goaltender for a few games last season when Justin Robinson was out with an injury, was in net for Woodstock. According to the NCDC website, the Moose are 3-10-3-0 this season while the Slammers are 2-12-2-0.
  • So odd to see the UNB Reds sitting fourth in the AUS men's hockey standings with a 6-3-1-0 record. The standings couldn't be much tighter.
