Three Sea Dogs made NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings for the 2014 NHL Draft.
Defenseman Olivier LeBlanc was the highest ranked Sea
Dog, coming in at No. 126. Forwards Matthew Highmore and Spencer Smallman were
ranked 155th and 173rd, respectively.
LeBlanc was Saint John’s highest scoring defenseman this
past season, recording seven goals and 33 points in 56 games. Highmore played
in all 68 games and recorded 19 goals and 50 points while Smallman finished
with 12 goals and 35 points in 66 games.
Forward Juraj Siska, who was drafted by the Sea Dogs in
last year’s CHL Import Draft but never played due to injury, was
listed at the bottom of the rankings with a “limited viewing” ranking.
Kingston forward Samuel Bennett was the top ranked skater
amongst North Americans. Halifax’s Nikolaj Ehlers was the top ranked QMJHL
player, coming in at 13th.
The NHL Draft takes place June 27-28 in Philadelphia.
