The Canadian Hockey League made its much anticipated debut on TSN Friday night with a doubleheader.

The first game featured a surprising upset with the Sudbury Wolves - led by a four-goal performance by David Goyette - defeating Shane Wright and the Kingston Frontenacs 8-4. The second game saw the Prince George Cougars defeat the Vancouver Giants 3-2 in overtime.

The doubleheader was the first of 10 regular season games set to be broadcast on television by the network. TSN.ca will continue to air quite a few other games - including some involving the Saint John Sea Dogs.
The CHL and TSN are focusing on Friday night broadcasts. Next Friday's match - COVID permitting - will feature the Connor Bedard and the Regina Pats taking on the Brandon Wheat Kings.

"As we were putting together the schedule with the folks at TSN, we were really excited about the notion of Friday nights and ‘Friday nights on TSN,'" CHL president Dan MacKenzie recently told Junior Hockey Magazine. "That is really what the schedule we announced is all about. I live in a junior hockey town and Friday nights in our town are junior hockey night. I live in Guelph and the Guelph Storm are a big part of Friday night for a lot of people. The CHL leveraging that reality on TSN and RDS to play on Friday nights in that window is really going to be a positive."

Friday's debut broadcast featured host Laura Diakun in studio with analysts Frank Corrado and Carlo Colaiacovo. Victor Findlay, who worked most of the CHL on CBC games earlier this season, and Marc Methot called the first game. Jon Abbott and Craig Button called the second.

A couple of the intermissions featured TSN's BarDown crew.
The first QMJHL game that was set to be broadcast by TSN was a Jan. 28 contest between the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Drummondville Voltigeurs. The game has been postponed by the league.
