Michael Hawkins/Saint John Sea Dogs |
The Victoriaville Tigres scored four times in the second period and another three times in the third in a 7-0 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs. It's the second time in just over a week that the Tigres defeated the Sea Dogs.
Thomas Belgarde scored a pair of goals for the Tigres while Justin Larose, Tommy Cormier, Nikita Prishchepov, Loick Daigle and Egor Goriunov added singles. Captain Maxime Pellerin had two assists.
Rookie goaltender Gabriel D'Aigle made 29 saves for his first career shutout in the QMJHL. The second overall pick in this year's QMJHL Entry Draft improved to 3-0 on the season - which includes two victories over Saint John.
The Tigres had an impressive showing on special teams, going 2/2 on the power play and scoring two shorthanded goals on three opportunities. Another goal was setup by Pellerin after he came out of the penalty box.
Olivier Brideau, in his first QMJHL start, allowed seven goals on 30 shots in the loss.
Saint John struggled on offense and defense on this winless three-game Quebec road trip, getting outscored a combined 20-3 by the Tigres, Sherbrooke Phoenix and Quebec Remparts.

SCRATCHES: The Sea Dogs were without goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise (injury); defensemen Jake Tracey (injury) and Charlie DesRoches (injury); and forwards Marshall Lessard (injury), Tomasz Szczerba (injury) and Jacob Beaulieu (healthy).
FIRST START: Olivier Brideau allowed seven goals on 30 shots in his first career QMJHL start. He didn't get much help on some of the goals, but there was one in the third he no doubt would like to have back. He previously made three relief appearances this season.
NOTES: The Tigres wore pink jerseys for their "Pink in the Rink" game... Saint John went with 12 forwards and six defensemen for this game with forward Danny Akkouche used as a d-man once again... there was a video tribute for former Tigres goaltender Nikolas Hurtubise in the first period... the Sea Dogs thought they had scored on a power play with 7:15 remaining in the third. After a review, it was called no goal... only 10 of Saint John's 29 shots were considered dangerous... Connor Trenholm, Nicolas Bilodeau and Cam MacDonald all had four shots... the Tigres are now 4-0-0-0 against Maritimes Division clubs this season... the goal horn at Colisee Desjardins will be in a lot of nightmares tonight... good crowd of 2,556.
HIGHLIGHTS
NEXT GAME: The Sea Dogs host the Moncton Wildcats on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at TD Station.
